Chalkboard Kitchen Utensil Crock
I love simple and easy crafts. I think that’s one of the reasons that I love chalkboard crafts. They’re always easy and anytime you want a little change, all you have to do is erase the chalk and put on your creative hat! Today I’ll show you how to make this easy chalkboard utensil crock.
One of my crafty theories that I live by to save money crafting is that if I see something on clearance that I might be able to use in the future, I pick it up.
For example I found these terra cotta wine chillers at Hobby Lobby on clearance two years ago. I scooped three of them up because they were $1.00 each! $1.00!!
But then they sat in a cabinet in my living room and a few times I questioned whether or not I wasted money on them. Then a few months ago I made the Easy Distressed Patriotic vase using one of them.
I love how that project turned out. It was fun and still looks amazing today.
Then a few days ago when I was looking for an easy, fast craft to make I saw the terra cotta containers and the bottle of chalkboard paint I had left over from chalkboard Easter eggs and knew I could do something great with them together.
Honestly I can’t say it enough – this is one of the easiest projects that you will ever see on this site. They’d make cute centerpieces for weddings, as a vase for a teacher gift or you can put them in the kitchen to hold your cooking utensils.
Step 1: Paint the crock with chalkboard paint. You could use a foam brush to avoid brush strokes but personally I can’t stand foam brushes so I just try to get the paint as even as possible.
There is a small lip at the top of the crock. I just used that as a guide to freehand paint a mostly straight line. If you want a perfect line or your crock doesn’t have the lip, use painters tap around the top to make a straight line of paint.
Step 2: Turn the crock over and and paint the bottom edge. Let dry for at least an hour.
Step 3: If you can wait, let it cure for 24 hours before you use chalk on it. If you can’t wait then don’t – if it messes up you can lightly sand that area and repaint.
Step 5: Decorate with chalk.
Step 6: Print out the Wicked Chickens Lay Deviled Eggs free printable and frame it to match your cute kitchen crock.
Use it as you want. Mine’s on my kitchen counter to hold all my kitchen utensils. What will you use yours for?
